Laser cutting

Sheet metal laser cutting

We cut sheet metal with fibre and CO₂ lasers to produce clean, accurate parts that are ready to go straight to bending, welding or assembly.

Steel · Stainless · Aluminium · Brass · Copper

What the service involves

Laser cutting turns a metal sheet into the flat part your project needs, following the drawing geometry exactly. The laser beam cuts the outer profile, the internal holes and every design detail in a single operation, with no dedicated tooling and no tool cost.

This solves a specific industrial problem: making custom metal parts without investing in moulds or dies, whether you need one or a thousand. A design change is a file change, not a new tool.

At Catà Germans, laser cutting is the starting point for most jobs. We have had laser cutting technology since 2000 and have renewed it over the years to keep cut quality and response time where they should be.

Parts and applications

  • Custom flat parts from a drawing or CAD file.
  • Chassis, brackets, flanges and plates for metal assemblies.
  • Panels, covers and enclosures with defined holes and cut-outs.
  • Blanks that are later bent, welded or machined.
  • Replacement parts reproduced from a sample or a sketch.
  • Prototypes to validate a design before committing to a batch.

Why work with Catà Germans

Every process under one roof
Cutting, forming, machining, welding and finishing in the same plant. The part does not travel between workshops, which cuts lead times and points of failure.
In-house engineering office
We review the drawing before manufacturing and prepare production from CAD/CAM. If something does not add up, we ask you instead of interpreting it ourselves.
Raw material in stock
We keep sheet and tube permanently in stock, so many standard jobs can start without waiting for material.
Over 65 years of the trade
A family business founded in 1958, specialised in industrial subcontracting of metal parts. You deal directly with the people who make the part.

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum thickness you can cut?

It depends on the material. The materials table shows the thicknesses we normally work with for each grade; the thickest listed is hot-rolled 304 stainless at 25 mm. If you need a thickness that is not listed, ask us and we will confirm.

Do you cut aluminium and stainless, or only steel?

We cut steel, stainless steel in several grades and finishes (304, 316, 310, 430), aluminium, brass, copper, galvanised steel and Corten. The full list with thicknesses is on this page.

Is tooling needed for a new part?

No. Laser cutting works straight from the file, so there is no tooling or die cost. That is why it suits prototypes and production runs equally well.

Does the part come ready to weld or bend?

Yes. We prepare the cut with the next process in mind: if the part is to be bent, engineering calculates the flat pattern before cutting so the finished dimensions match the drawing.

Which file formats do you accept?

We accept PDF, DXF, DWG, STEP/STP, STL, IGS/IGES and also PNG or JPG images. If you do not have a final drawing yet, send us a dimensioned sketch and we will review it all the same.

Do you make one-off parts or only production runs?

We handle one-off parts and prototypes as well as small, medium and large batches and repeat production. You can specify this in the quote request.

How quickly do you reply to an enquiry?

We send a technical response in under 48 hours from receiving the drawing and the part details.

Can several processes be combined on the same part?

Yes — that is the normal way we work. A part can go through laser cutting, bending, welding and finishing inside the same plant, under a single order and a single point of contact.
