Description

A commemorative plaque can turn an everyday place into a place of remembrance. Custom metal plaques make it possible to create permanent memorials for public spaces, streets, squares and historical remembrance projects, with the material, dimensions and content of each piece adapted to the tribute.

Stainless steel is particularly well suited to this kind of application thanks to its strength and durability. Cutting the text and graphic elements into the metal builds the commemorative content directly into the piece, so every plaque is personalised for its tribute.

The project

In this project, which we have carried out on several occasions for different municipalities, we made stainless steel commemorative paving stones to remember the victims of Francoist repression. The pieces are set directly into the pavement, like paving stones, in front of the homes where the persecuted people lived.

Each plaque carries its own cut-out text with the details of the person being honoured, turning the public space into a permanent point of remembrance.

The project is part of an initiative in which several town councils have taken part to recover and make visible the memory of those who were persecuted. It is a piece of metal fabrication that, in this case, goes beyond the function of the part and contributes to building a collective memory.
