Wood-effect metal cladding for a residence
Sheet and tube metal cladding with a painted wood-effect finish and concealed integrated doors, made to measure for a new residence in Barcelona.
Description
Metal cladding with a wood-effect finish brings together design, function and durability in architecture and interior design projects. With sheet, tubular profiles and a painted finish that reproduces the look of wood, the result is a warm-looking cladding that keeps the performance of metal.
This type of cladding can also integrate concealed doors and access points to technical installations such as electrical panels and meters, so they stay accessible without breaking the visual continuity of the walls.
At Catà Germans we make custom metal cladding, adapting the sheets, profiles, finishes and construction details to the requirements of each project.
The project
For this project, a new residence in Barcelona, we manufactured metal cladding with a painted wood-effect finish to bring visual warmth to the corridors and to integrate several access points to technical installations.
The assembly combines sheet and tubular profiles with concealed doors built into the cladding itself, with no handles or visible fittings. Behind the finish are the electrical panels, meters and other installations, while the surface stays continuous and uniform.
One of the main challenges was adapting the design and manufacture so that the doors blend visually into the cladding without losing function. At the same time, the solution takes advantage of how metal performs in fire, always in line with the characteristics of the materials and the construction system.
Manufacturing process
Catà Germans handled the technical development and the manufacturing in our workshop. Each piece was worked to meet the project requirements and make on-site installation easier.
The sheets are laser cut and bent, and the tubular profiles that create the vertical slatted rhythm of the cladding are added. Finally, the assembly receives the painted finish that gives it the appearance of wood.
The result brings together custom metal fabrication, technical precision and architectural integration, and shows what sheet metal and metal profiles can do in residential projects.
Applications
• Decorative metal cladding for interior walls and corridors.
• Sheet metal cladding with a painted wood-effect finish.
• Concealed doors built into walls and cladding, with no visible handles.
• Hidden access points and metal access panels for electrical panels, meters and other technical installations.
• Cladding for residences, hotels and public buildings.
• Architecture and interior design projects that want the look of wood with the performance of metal.
• Custom-made sheets and profiles for construction and building services companies.
Frequently asked questions
Can metal cladding be made with a wood-effect finish?
Yes. The sheets and tubular profiles are painted with a finish that reproduces the look of wood, so the cladding adds visual warmth while keeping the performance of metal.
Can concealed doors be built into metal cladding?
Yes. The doors are designed within the cladding itself, with no visible handles, and give access to electrical panels, meters and other installations with as little as possible on show.
Can you make custom metal cladding for a residence or a hotel?
Yes. Dimensions, geometry, finishes and access points are adapted to the needs of each architectural project.
Is metal suitable for cladding in spaces with fire safety requirements?
Metal can be part of construction solutions designed to meet certain fire requirements. However, the final behaviour depends on the materials, the finishes and the complete construction system, and must be assessed against the requirements of each building.
Do you handle the technical development of the cladding?
Yes. We take care of the technical development and the manufacturing in our workshop, and prepare each piece to the project requirements so that installation on site is simpler.
